August 1947 vor Raroia im Tuamotu Archipel auf Grund lief, hatte Thor Heyerdahl die Reise seines Lebens beendet: Er hatte gezeigt, dass die Wissenschaft die Seegngigkeit antiker Wasserfahrzeuge unterschtzt hatte und dass es sehr wohl mglich war, mit einem Flo aus Balsaholz den Pazifik zu berqueren. 8000 Kilometer hatte der (ursprnglich extrem wasserscheue) Abenteurer mit einer kleinen Crew auf dem Flo zurckgelegt, von Peru nach
