Auf dem mhsamen Weg von Edo (dem heutigen Tokio) nach Kyoto lie er in regelmigen Abstnden Rastpltze einrichten, an denen Gasthuser, Lden und Restaurants den erschpften Reisenden Kost und Logis boten. Im Jahre 1835 erhielt der anerkannte Holzschnitzer Keisai Eisen den Auftrag, die Reise auf der Kiso Strae in einer Reihe von Schnitten abzubilden.
